Stijntje Dijk MD, MSc is the winner of the Lambers Student Excellence Award 2023. The award was presented at the 110th Dies Natalis ceremony on Wednesday 8 November.
In 2022, Stijntje completed her master’s degree in Health Sciences cum laude. Before that, she studied Medicine and Health Economics, Policy and Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
During the corona pandemic, she focused on contributing to solutions to the problems the world was facing at that time. With her research, but also by volunteering several times to provide information on vaccinations.
For her master’s thesis, Stijntje examined policy decisions related to conducting clinical trials for drug trials for COVID-19. A unique aspect of her research lay in measuring the number of lives that could be lost due to delayed introduction of a potentially effective medical treatment. Her thesis was published in the Value in Health journal.
She recently started her PhD research on Medical Decision Making under the supervision of Prof Myriam Hunink, at both the Department of Epidemiology and the Department of Radiology at Erasmus MC.
A good teacher and supervisor
Besides her excellent teaching and research achievements, Stijntje is a good teacher and supervisor for students. She teaches several courses at Erasmus MC and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. In addition, she supervises several master students in their master thesis projects. Stijntje also contributes to the improvement of higher education: among other things, she is active as a student member for the NVAO.
