About Prof. M.J. (Marco) Bruno, MD PhD

Introduction

Prof. dr. Marco J. Bruno (1963) is a full professor of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He received his training at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam under the supervision of Prof. dr. Guido Tytgat and Prof. dr. Kees Huibregtse.

 

His clinical and research activities span more than two decades and focus on gastrointestinal oncology, hepato-pancreato-biliary diseases and interventional endoscopy, including endoscopic retrograde cholangio­pancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).

 

He is (co)-author of over 300 peer reviewed articles in high ranking journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Gastroenterology, Gut, Endoscopy and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is a recognized international authority on the diagnosis and treatment of biliary and pancreatic diseases and has served as invited faculty at many international conferences and  live endoscopy workshops. He is also the initiator and leading author of international guidelines on chronic pancreatic, pancreatic cyst surveillance, and pancreatic cancer surveillance in high risk individual based on a hereditary predisposition.

 

He is council member end treasurer of the European Association of Gastroenterology, Endoscopy & Nutrition (EAGEN); past council member of United European Gastroenterology (UEG); and past chairman of the Education Committee of United European Gastroenterology (UEG) and the Dutch Pancreatitis Study Group.
