About D.L. (Djuna) Cahen, MD PhD
Introduction
Current research interests
For over a decade I have been doing research in pancreatology, with special focus on chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer and cysts. I have set up a large long-term cohort study on pancreatic cyst surveillance (PACYFIC study), which is joined by over 42 centers worldwide. We have ongoing collaborations with several renowned centers in Europe (Karolinska, Beaujeon, Greifswald) and the USA (Columbia, Maio, Johns Hopkins), on several projects.
Previous work
My PhD research focused on endoscopic treatment of chronic pancreatitis. The key publication was a randomised trial comparing endoscopic and surgical drainage of the pancreatic duct, which was published in the NEJM.
Professional development
I was trained as a Gastroenterologist at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam (Amsterdam University Medical Centre). Since 2005 I have been working as a gastroenterologist at the ziekenhuis Amstelland in Amstelveen. My research activities were moved from the AMC to the Erasmus Medical Center in 2008, where I joined the staff.
