About A.J.P. (Adriaan) van der Meer, MD PhD

Introduction

Adriaan van der Meer (1983) achieved his medical degree in 2009 at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, after which he started as a research-physician in the field of Hepatology. During a 4 year PhD trajectory he focussed on viral hepatitis. In 2014 he successfully defended his thesis 'Antiviral Therapy for Chronic HCV Infection: Virological Response and Long-Term Outcome'.

 

During his residency in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from 2013 to 2019 he continued in clinical research. As of 2019 he is a full member of staff of the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. His clinical focus is on liver diseases and liver transplantation. At present he guides the trajectory of 3 PhD students focusing on viral hepatitis and cholestatic liver diseases.

 

Adriaan is the leading investigator of the Dutch PBC Cohort Study Group. Besides being treasurer of the Foundation for Liver and Gastrointestinal Research, he is also a board member at The Netherlands Association for the Study of the Liver (NASL), the Dutch Liver Society and the secretary of the Cholestasis task force of the NASL.
