About A.C. (Annemarie) de Vries, MD PhD

Introduction

Dr. A.C. de Vries, associate professor in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), is the director of the IBD program in the Erasmus MC. After a two year research period, she finished her PhD trajectory cum laude on the subject of premalignant gastric lesions in 2008. After this scientific achievement and clinical training as gastroenterologist,  she has successfully shifted her focus towards the challenging field of IBD.

Over the past years, she has initiated several multidisciplinary research projects, including epidemiological studies, large clinical trials and translational research. Dr. de Vries has a particular interest the extraintestinal complications of IBD. Over the past years, she has led successful research projects and has supervised PhD trajectories and master students. This research program has resulted in several peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. de Vries has been awarded the ECCO Pioneer grant 2022 for her research on postoperative recurrence of CD. In addition, she has received the prestigious Career Development Grant from the Dutch Gastroenterology foundation (Maag-Lever-Darm Stichting) for her translational research on the genetic profile of PSC-associated cholangiocarcinoma. Nationally, Dr. de Vries is board member of the IBD consortium Initiative on Crohn and Colitis (ICC) and co-founder of the national PSC consortium (EpiPSC). Internationally, she participates in the ECCO committees on prehabilitation in CD and postoperative management in CD.
